Floral Tiles
The inspiration for floral tiles came from some mexican tiles I saw while I was researching ideas for my vintage restaurant. I then took the decorative concept of the mexican tile, and added my own floral concept to it. I got the idea of the floral concept, by making it more of a ‘vintage’ look, then decided to make the tile look like it was scattered with flowers. I would say this floral tile was greatly mexican influenced, or “talavera” in design.
“In the 15th and 16th centuries, the central Iberian town of Talavera de la Reina became internationally renowned for ceramics. They called it “La Ciudad de la Cerámica,” or the “The City of Ceramics.” The city’s designs owe a lot to the international population that resided there. This includes Dutch and Arab settlers that contributed new techniques, tools and tastes that ultimately informed the Talavera style.”
The History of Talavera Tile
The tiles preceding the floral tiles, were inspired by various tiles from the georgian era.
